Hrmmmmm.

I was unaware of her releasing any such statements.
Interesting.

I’ll never get why close friendship always have to mean ”they were totally in love and had totes of sex”. It always make me feel people saying that have never had a really meaningful frirndship.

I honestly think it has something to do with how western society paints male relationships. Like, best guy friends are just supposed to hang out and drink beer and occasionally do the sports ball thing. They aren’t supposed to talk about their feelings or make physical contact or do anything that are considered touchstones of female friendships. And, frankly, I think this toxic (?) idea of male relationships have skewed how others see emotionally open male friendships. I.e affectionate = gay/sexual. Especially since, with genuine mlm relationship being more visible instead of hidden away like some dirty secret, a younging, who wants to see X band member plough Y band member, see X and Y being chummy, they. Must. Be. Fucking.

There’s probably a whole conversation about toxic masculinity to have here, but I don’t think I’m the one to lead it.

But, OH. MY. GOD. I am getting sick of Beatles shippers on my fucking dash.

I firmly believe they had more than platonic feelings for each other, although I go back and forth on whether they ever admitted that to each other, much less acted upon them. Yoko totally knew how John felt though, and it wouldn't surprise me if she deliberately needled Paul from time to time.

It would be interesting to see how their relationship would have played out had they met in 2019 instead of 1957.

lmfao

And if this were true, John has been dead for forty years, why would anything about it wind Paul up. Make him slightly sad, but wound up? That's not how normal grief works.

I think John was one of those guys who'd try anything once but Paul probably not.

Which Paul do you mean? Pre-yeti or post-yeti? :p

... heh, sorry. I guess people don't talk about that any more?

Anyhow, when I was a kid in the -- very late 60s? -- there was what would now be called a "fan theory" explained to me by my cousin. She said that there were messages embedded in the *White Album* that hinted that the "real" Paul had died in Tibet or Nepal (killed by a yeti no less). Supposedly some song played backwards had a "Paul is dead" line in it. ~ And the proof of this was that the songs Paul was suddenly writing, and even his personality, had changed dramatically because the new, post-yeti accident Paul wasn't as good as the original.

I heard about the Paul is dead nonsense but he was supposedly in a car wreck ("he blew his mind out in a car"); I never heard any shit about a yeti or a samsquanch or anything like that.

Heh, perhaps it was a regional variant.

Well if the replacement Paul wrote Ram then I prefer him to the original

I think the question is when? It's pretty well established that they were barely able to be in the same room together when Epstein died, and by the time Yoko came along the Lennon/McCartney brand was mostly a contractual fib. (George was gigging and recording for other groups, and poor Ringo was self-medicating through later recording sessions.)

I don't really doubt that John had sex with men, but I'm skeptical about solid relationships given his own struggles with toxic masculinity and homophobia.

John did beat up a guy for joking about his sexuality after all.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-11 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Usually the rumors suggest that Lennon and Epstein were more likely, although it wasn't a steady thing.
