Okay. Still like it. Don't worry. Not planning on having kids, so the only one who'd I'd ever give it to would be a pet.

There are two kinds of people: those who think popular and bland are negative traits in a name...

As someone with a popular and bland name: they are, though. It's so tiring to have to constantly clarify WHICH [X] you are because there are three other people at your workplace with the same name, or to have people immediately start telling you about their aunt/grandmother/daughter/niece/sister's third cousin once removed who is also named [X].

I would happily trade my name in for a more unusual one because I'm sick of it.

Then I'll trade you. It's so tiring to constantly have to spell my name to anyone who hears it, pronounce it for anyone who sees it, and hear things like "oh, what a beautiful name!" when I fucking hate it. I don't WANT a "beautiful" name. I want a NORMAL name. When I was little, I was jealous of everyone in my class with the same name as each other. Now that I'm an adult, very few people even know my name, because I go by a nice, plain one. I still have to use it what feels like all the time though, because it's on my ID, credit card, tax form...

I realize that post came off pretty confrontational, and I'm sorry. It's not you, I just feel pretty vehemently about my name. I know my parents gave it to me with love and that makes me feel guilty for hating it, but I do.

Hate to break it to you, but I STILL have to spell my popular, bland name to people because there are multiple possible spellings for it. And I get it spelled wrong all the time because sometimes people won't ask me which spelling it is and just assume. And that's not even getting into all the people who feel that it's okay to just arbitrarily give me a nickname of a shortened form of my name.

Well, obviously, I want a popular, bland name that doesn't have variant spellings or pronunciations. And definitely not one that's really strongly attached to a popular song or cultural reference. I think about names a lot. Nice, normal names that I might not be the only one to have, and that would never give me trouble. Names that wouldn't stick out, that the mind would just roll over peacefully without noticing...

Sophie, Tyler, Franklin, Hannah, Evie, Bridie, Siobhan, Castor, Gertrude, David.

I've also always liked the name Adaja, but I have no idea if that's a real name or one I just made up. I wanna say it's Dutch?

Daniel. Of all the guys I've ever had crushes on (people I knew, famous people, and fictional characters all total), about half of them have been named Daniel, Danny, or Dan. And the one time I had a crush on a girl, her name was Daniella. It's kind of freaky. Maybe a remnant from a past life or something.
