Mom has to have a mitral valve repair/replacement! Huzzah! Saving grace is that she's probably in the top 1% of 80-yr-old health. Walks five miles a day, has the kind of arteries you could drive a truck through. But it's still not an easy thing for a person her age to go through!

Crossing my fingers and hoping for a quick recovery for your mom! Surgery's never fun, but it sounds like your mom has a lot in her favor.
