I should say that I'm probably thinking of the Chalion books first, and the Vorkosigan books second.

I do think you have a point about Cordelia, but on the other hand (and I haven't read through the Vorkosigan stuff in a while so take this fwiw) but she does sort of become a largely secondary character, right? So it seems like it would be kinda inevitable for her character to lose a little definition.

It's been too long since I've read the Chalion books, but I don't recall it having the same issues. Neither does her Sharing Knife series. This is more of a Vorkosigan saga problem, IMO

You have a point about Cordelia becoming a secondary character after the first two books, but that's also part of the problem. You don't have to be the main POV character to continue developing as a character, or to get scenes that show what your personality is like as opposed to other characters talking about How Cordelia Is. If Bujold had done that, maybe this book where she IS the main character again wouldn't feel so jolting.
