He didn't, though. She was okay with it after she found out about it and encouraged it then, but the book didn't make it sound like they'd discussed it and agreed to an open marriage beforehand. Bujold is just about to handwave past that because Cordelia is Betan (which is a huge theme in the books) and therefore chill about a ton of things that Barrayarans aren't okay with doing.
