Do you wear the perfume you collect, out of interest? Curious anon is curious.

Oh, absolutely! I need to learn to use them more, though. I conditioned myself to use them very sparingly, because when I began collecting I only had a couple, and I never knew if I'd be able to afford to replace one if it ran out.

Now I have quite a few and I should just decant them all into purse spray bottles and use them throughout the day, but I don't. So I'm not really getting maximum pleasure out of them, which is dumb, lol.

I know people say perfumes "go bad" after a few years, but my oldest perfume is like...17 years old and it still smells the same as ever. So in my experience is takes a reeeally long time for them to spoil.

I also give less than zero fucks about whether a perfume is intended for a man or a woman. I mean, the one I have my eye on right now is marketed as a unisex perfume but it's clearly targeted to men (the notes are more traditionally masculine, and the bottle's label is silver-gray). But I'll wear anything that smells good. :)

Please don't *ever* use them 'throughout the day'. Unless you shower a lot or sweat like, a *lot*, once or *maybe* twice is enough. Your nose might become immune to the scent, but it's actually still there, and still going strong, long after you've stopped noticing it.

Those of us who get instant, sick, ice-pick headaches from perfumes thank you.

Yes by "throughout the day" I did in fact mean, occasionally, once the scent is no longer detectable to anyone whose nose is not pressed against my skin.

And no, in many cases the fragrance is not still there, unless you are a bloodhound. Some people's skin just doesn't hang onto fragrance very well. Humidity also affects the longevity and sillage of scents. From time to time I ask my friends and family how strong my perfume is. Often their answer is, "I can't smell it at all."

I have literally had to get up and walk out of rooms because of people and their perfumes. Either they are bathing in it, or i'm really sensitive.

My sister and i almost never wore/wear perfume, because we would put it on and in about fifteen minutes, the whole scent would change, usually to something very unpleasant. We both loved that 'Love's Baby Soft' that was so popular in the early eighties, but it smelled like ass on both of us.

The only scent we can both wear that still smells good later is White Shoulders.

My mom had that problem with Chanel No.5!

Smelled nice on other people, and in the bottle, but like literal cat piss on her.

Some perfumes just react weirdly on the skin of some people.

Scent is the first thing you'll get used to. Friends and family will often get used to the smell of your fragrance just like you do if they're exposed to it for long periods, or frequently.

I don't notice my sister's perfume any more, unless she's recently switched it up, and my friend always wears the same scent, which I'm now immune to unless she's literally just applied it.

For all you know, you smell like you ram-raided a perfumery to strangers.

I tend to rotate my perfumes, so it'd be hard for my friends and family to get very used to them. Also, I wear them to work and if I'm ever concerned I put on too much I'll ask whoever I'm sitting beside (which is a new person every day), but I've never had anyone say it was more than mildly noticeable.

I will acknowledge that if I forget to put my perfume on until right before I leave the house (which happens occasionally) then it could definitely be very noticeable - too noticeable - for the first hour or so. But I try not to do that because I know some people have uncommonly strong senses of smell.
