Re: Small cultural things that bemuse you

I keep trying to train myself out of wearing shoes in the house (or good shoes to garden, sigh) and have never managed it. I grew up with a yard that was 95% concrete and only moved to a place with actual dirt in my teens, and up into my 20s we had a wooden deck in the back yard and a concrete front stoop, so dirt in the house was never a huge problem.

I know most people who take their shoes off inside grew up doing it, but aside from putting mats outside and just inside the door(s) and keeping my shoes on them, does anyone have any tips for someone who’d like to stop tracking dirt in my house?

Put slippers by the door and swap as soon as you get in.

AYRT—I don’t own any slippers. I’ve tried having sandals I only wear indoors, but when I’m in and out of the house six times in an hour, I get frustrated or forgetful and give up.
