Well, most people have either a microwave where they heat up individual cups of hot water, or a coffee maker, or the type of kettle you put on the stove and heat.

The 'plug in/turn on/instant hot water' type of kettle popular in the UK isn't much known here, but its not like people here don't have *something* that does the same thing.
