Truthfully, I believe there's no such thing, because humor is such a subjective thing. What one person finds funny, even if they think it's the funniest joke of all time, might not even get a smile out of the next person. And then there's humor that some people find juvenile or stupid, like toilet humor, to give an example, or even offensive and awful, like AIDS jokes.

This one requires being said out loud to be funny, but it’s a crowd-pleaser:

A lady walks into an ice cream parlor, walks up the the counter and says to the guy, “I’d like a scoop of pistachio ice cream, please.”

Guy says, “Shoot, sorry, we just sold out of pistachio, is there anything else I can get you?”

She says, “Oh, well, in that case, I’d like a pint of pistachio ice cream, please.”

Guy hesitates a second, then clarifies, “Sorry, maybe I wasn’t clear, but we’re totally out of pistachio.”

She says, “Oh, right, right, sorry! In that case, I’ll take a quart of pistachio ice cream, please.”

He goes, “Lady, how do you spell the “van” in vanilla?”

She kind of looks at him and says, “V-A-N?”

I'm so sick of San Antonio drivers. Driving has become so stressful for me. Everyone drives so aggressively. And speed limits don't seem to matter at all, even in the far right lane. People get mad at you if you go the speed limit. And now things are going to get even worse because they are implementing the new law that says no red light cameras because they are somehow an invasion of privacy. Those cameras were one of the few things actually helping things here.

It isn't helping that I've reached a point where driving is painful. Even though I use my right foot to drive and it is my left foot that is in pain, there is still really no position I can put it in when sitting in the car that isn't painful. Surgery can't come too soon. But I have to wait until November 21. And pain is definitely making me more irritable. But still. Texas drivers suck.

This is so trivial and not really much of a rant, but those Heineken non-alcoholic beer commercials are the dumbest fucking things. It makes no sense to me to even make non-alcoholic beer in the first place, but then to spend money advertising it, and the ads themselves are just so completely stupid (ooooh look at me I'm a total edgelord drinking a beer in a business meeting at my job, but haw haw haw, fuckos, it's actually ok because there's no alcohol in it), I don't get it.

Any company that makes a car commercial about how their car is good because it's so safe and if you decided to drive a different car, you'll either kill your family in a crash or kill some random pedestrian in a crash should be executed.

I know I'm very late to the party here but I'm so pissed about this. I started watching Elementary about a month ago and was really enjoying it but this morning I watched an episode where Holmes said "feminazi". I'm done. That really ruined it for me.

Some days I just look at the people in my life and just want to scream WILL YOU GET OVER YOURSELVES, SWALLOW YOUR PRIDES AND GET THE FUCK ALONG FOR ONCE.

But I know I'm not them, nor do I have any say in the reasons why they don't get along. I just hate feeling like I'm caught in the middle of it, all the time. I truly envy people who can afford to think so ill of others and maybe lose a friend in the process. I mean, I can't.

My aunt and uncle are divorcing and she's still awful and controlling and has him running errands for her and is asking him for money all the time even though she's divorcing him because he wasn't making enough money to keep her happy.

But he married into our family and she's the one I'm related to so I'm "supposed to be on her side".

I am not. She's a bitch.

I might never be able to talk to him again and he was really kind to me after a death in my family. We've always really connected and love talking about books and music because we have similar tastes and he just made being around her a lot more bearable. I've known him most of my life and I wish we were keeping him instead of her.

Inspired by the first secret. Do you think there's alien life in the universe? Microbial, multi-cellular, or intelligent? How common do you think it is?

I think there is certainly microbial life. And possibly some sort of multi-cellular life. I think there could be intelligent life, maybe. But I don't think we'll ever meet them. Because I don't think, even if they exist, they're going to have the ability to come here, and even if they did I don't think they'd have any reason to come here.

Personally, I can see microbial life being fairly common. More complex life, very rare. There MIGHT be intelligent civilizations, but if so, I think they're too far away to ever contact.

I think there's SOMEthing else out there. Maybe not sentient life, but things like microbes, plants, maybe even small animals. Earth can't be the only planet capable of sustaining life.

So obviously, there's every chance that there's various extremely simple forms of life throughout the universe.

However, I also think that complex life, let alone life that's complex enough to attain intelligence or form civilizations, is most likely very, very rare. Part of that is just based on the complete lack of observable evidence. But I also think that the development complex life is most likely very hard and very unlikely. The requirements are so specific, and there's so many extinction events and other dead ends that have to be avoided.

Just think about volcanism as one example - volcanism is something that's probably extremely useful for producing complex life, because of the energy that it provides. So if a planet is insufficiently volcanic, it's much harder for complex life to develop. But if a planet is too volcanic, it'll cause recurrent mass extinctions. How much luck did it require for life on earth not to be effectively eradicated in the Late Devonian extinction? So it seems like it's a razor's edge to have all of these complex conditions for life, and also avoid catastrophic extinction events. And even if you avoid extinction events, you still have to worry about organisms reaching 'dead ends' - for example, imagine an ecosystem that's completely dominated by a single species of grass. That would be a form of life, but it obviously wouldn't conduce to the development of complexity of the kind we're interested in. Even human beings might be regarded as a dead end from this point of view.

So I think we have to take really seriously the idea that we are - as far as complex life in the known universe goes - it.

I think there's alien life out there, and a lot of it, and it's as diverse as life on our own planet is. It's either too far away, or avoiding us. There are countless galaxies out there, with countless planets in them. It seems silly, to me, to assume we're the only planet in the entire universe with sustainable life.
