In my experience? A lot of it is the same purism you'll find in the people who "don't read translations"/"never watch dubs", only with the expertise being the knowledge of the original and the assumption that the original is always best.

I feel you a lot, anyway. I'm mainly into anime, most of which is adaptations. It's galling to watch series where the adaptation improves upon the story, yet people rag on it for not staying true to the original. Somehow even worse, when both the original and the adaptation were flawed, but flawed in different manners, yet the people who piss on the anime will praise the original to the high heavens.
