Love this secret, LOVE this picture choice! It's making me grin so hard at work right now.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
+1

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Same, I just wanna look at fanart

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I get that it's a secret and all that, but there is something a little weird about a secret that basically boils down to "the problem with fandom on Twitter is that it exposes me to other fans"

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say it lacks but hints "...and there's no filter to keep the crazies away like there is on other platforms"?

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
You can't block people on twitter? /knows nothing about twitter

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
You can, but not meaningfully

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
??? How do you mean, "not meaningfully"

You can block a whole Twitter account, but since there are generally not tags or hashtags unless someone's being really thorough, you can't really selectively block stuff.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-20 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
You can mute words, though. That's definitely something you can do on Twitter.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-20 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
twitter's mute function is a joke. if i use twitter's official app or site, i still see stuff w my muted words very frequently. muting works okay with 3rd party twitter apps though

(Anonymous) 2019-10-20 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Did you mute for everyone, or just people you don't follow? because I think the latter is the default

Hrmmmmm. I've never done that, so i'm not familiar with it.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
The secret mentioned creators specifically, though. Which isn't exactly the same thing as your run of the mill fan.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really. Fans kinda make or break fandom for me. Sometimes you don't want to know about them personally, their work is really what is more important. There a lot of primadonas, tumblr-famous weirdos that frankly have ruined a lot of fandom stuff for me over the years. I go on twitter a couple times a year at most and try to stay out of the fandom on there. Not worth it, it's kind of a cesspool in general, not just in fandom.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-20 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's a reasonable attitude

it just struck me of how much of a weird dynamic it is, especially compared to older fandom

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol Love the image you chose for this secret. One of the BNFs in my fandom turned out to be really annoying, so I unfollowed her.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Twitter was a mistake" would have sufficed, honestly

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
A+ picture choice comment secret maker!

I'm just kind of baffled at the idea of *fandom* on Twitter at all, and then - being super-personal on a TWITTER FANDOM ACCOUNT. I guess i've kept my personal stuff and fandom stuff pretty much separate for a long time (like - personal entries in my journals are always flocked) that it seems were to *not* do that.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-20 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Same, because back in the day you could at least write long entries and post fic on livejournal and twitter is only good for short comments? I don't think it's great for discussion, though people do that. The fact that I can't filter my posts is a dealbreaker.

This, too - the word count thing is a huge deal breaker for fandom, for me.
And just...it's Twitter. I dunno.

Maybe i'm just old.

(Anonymous) 2019-10-20 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Twitter is garbage for fandom other than looking at fanart. But like OP says, then that means you have to actually deal with the artist too.

Mute and block?
