I get that it's a secret and all that, but there is something a little weird about a secret that basically boils down to "the problem with fandom on Twitter is that it exposes me to other fans"

I'd say it lacks but hints "...and there's no filter to keep the crazies away like there is on other platforms"?

You can't block people on twitter? /knows nothing about twitter

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
You can, but not meaningfully

(Anonymous) 2019-10-19 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
??? How do you mean, "not meaningfully"

You can block a whole Twitter account, but since there are generally not tags or hashtags unless someone's being really thorough, you can't really selectively block stuff.

You can mute words, though. That's definitely something you can do on Twitter.

twitter's mute function is a joke. if i use twitter's official app or site, i still see stuff w my muted words very frequently. muting works okay with 3rd party twitter apps though

Did you mute for everyone, or just people you don't follow? because I think the latter is the default

Hrmmmmm. I've never done that, so i'm not familiar with it.

The secret mentioned creators specifically, though. Which isn't exactly the same thing as your run of the mill fan.

Not really. Fans kinda make or break fandom for me. Sometimes you don't want to know about them personally, their work is really what is more important. There a lot of primadonas, tumblr-famous weirdos that frankly have ruined a lot of fandom stuff for me over the years. I go on twitter a couple times a year at most and try to stay out of the fandom on there. Not worth it, it's kind of a cesspool in general, not just in fandom.

I think that's a reasonable attitude

it just struck me of how much of a weird dynamic it is, especially compared to older fandom
