I would find that a more compelling argument if there was some other intelligent species out there with a better track record. But as far as we know, we're it. There's a reasonably high probability that, if intelligent life is going to exist in the universe, it's either going to be us here on earth, or it's going to have to get kick-started by us. And I'd rather not rely on us sticking it out over the very long term, given the very mess that we've made.

And at the end of the day, I think the existence of intelligent life is a good thing.

There are. They're here on earth with us. We're driving them to extinction.

Nothing in this opinion in any way conflicts with trying to be environmentalist and reduce mass extinction on earth
