The worst thing about this right there is....they look so DRAB. They look like they all wear hairnets to work and live in dingy little flats and never, ever, go farther than the corner shops.

Just...they're WIZARDS. Why can't they look...wizard-y? Meh.

That's one of my biggest complaints about the movies, honestly. Everyone goes on about Harry's eyes being the wrong color but nobody seems to care they're all in jeans at school.

The thing it, it wasn't like that in the first two movies; Do 3rd years get the rights to wear jeans and jumpers????

DA - It's been a long time since I read the books, but my recollection is they stay in the robes throughout their time at the school. They just wanted a different look for the movies, and the 3rd one in particular.

By the third movie, my understanding is that they let the actors start to pick out the "downtime" wardrobes for their characters.

Thus Hermione is too fashionable and in too much pink, and there are t-shirts and denims everywhere. At least Felton chose suits and nice slacks?

I believe it was a decision by Curon to let the kids have more personality...

In a lot of modern boarding schools, boarders aren't expected to stay in the uniform every moment they're not sleeping. I guess that was the logic.

Yes! First year, everybody had funky hats and robes, by year three? I think? Pretty much everyone is in 'muggle' clothes, and it's just....depressing.

The jeans thing doesn't even bother me, it's the overall color palette of the movies being so toned-down and dusty and drained that's weird to me.

They spent all the money on making Voldemort's death unnecessarily sparkly (in direct opposition to the book) and didn't have any left to pay a costume designer, so everyone went down to the nearest charity shop with the change they had in their pockets.

HA, omg, yes. It does look like they're dressed from some thrift store specializing in early 80's frump.

LOL, I always think the same thing when I see this pic. Poor Ginny got some serious middle aged mom hair.

Dear gods, yes! And Ron, too, really - that side-comb thing, wth.... They all just look so .....WAN.

Between the drab and the weird ageing effects, they look like they're in a high school production of Our Town.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, homg. Yes. :D

Yeah, they tried to age 20 year olds up to look like 40 year olds, but they just ended up looking like extremely drab, extremely tired 20 year olds. Which I think is very often a problem when movies try to age people to look older but not actually old. the makeup effects team seems to have thought they could just add some fine lines and dark circles and call it good. But in reality, their faces should've all either lost mass or gained mass, and the flesh on their faces shouldn't be in the same place it was when they were teens.

Yup. Age makeup just never looks quite *right*, and I wish they wouldn't try it. I'm fine with other actors who look a lot like the original ones.
