I thought it was pretty clear that Spinel represents a happy carefree childhood and that Pink would eventually outgrow her (she was clearly annoyed by her by the end), thus abandoning Spinel was something inevitable. Although the way Pink handled it was incredibly immature, ironically.

SA: (My point being that Spinel, because of the job she was created for, it's possible she'd be simply too innocent and naive to understand that someone could grow tired of her company)
