This secret makes no sense.

If your friend likes these books enough to recommend them and thinks they're similar to Pratchett, then that means your friend will probably enjoy Pratchett.

You are the one who both dislikes these books and thinks they're dissimilar to Pratchett. Thus it makes perfect sense that you like the latter but not the former.

(As to why your friend has never gotten into Pratchett despite expecting to enjoy his books: there are lots of possibilities, but I'd bet on intimidation at the sheer volume of Discworld.)

I thought it was pretty clear that Spinel represents a happy carefree childhood and that Pink would eventually outgrow her (she was clearly annoyed by her by the end), thus abandoning Spinel was something inevitable. Although the way Pink handled it was incredibly immature, ironically.
