(Anonymous) 2019-10-28 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)But it felt like instead of smart satire, they went for the lowest-hanging fruit of poo humor and dick jokes. And I don't object to poop or dick jokes as a rule, but when they're taking the place of a smarter joke, that's a problem. That's ultimately the issue I had with KtFB--it was a high-brow concept with low-brow execution, and that just fundamentally doesn't work.
I don't know about the female author (Delilah something?), but I've talked to people about Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series, and a lot of them like the books, but the ones who don't almost always cite "edgy for sake of being edgy" and that bleeds through into KtFB, I think. One dick joke might be funny, but when your whole world map is a dick joke, there's no longer humor in the unexpected.
