Cool female dancing

[personal profile] kribban 2019-10-27 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I've fallen down the BTS rabbithole and part of what I enjoy about their live performances are the high-energy, big attitude dance routines. But it also gives me that familiar gloomy dread of why can't women be this cool?

So feel free to rec me your favorite moments of badass female dancing (YouTube clips, please.)

German books please?

[personal profile] malurette 2019-10-27 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been meaning to learn German for a couple of years now but there's only so much German-for-Dummies books and Duolingo can do, I think I need an incentive and real practice.
Children, young adult, easy-to-digest literature? I'm not sure what genre though; maybe hold the fantasy and science fiction--I usually like them but I'm afraid the vocabulary would be tougher in these?

Looking for new music. Not sure what I want, TBH. I've got such a wide range of tastes. Right now I'm especially partial to Celtic/Pagan/new age stuff, metal, and anyone singing in Spanish to help me practice my Spanish.

What is a movie that someone loved...

(Anonymous) 2019-10-27 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
That was completely out of character for them? or one you like that is.

Hallmark Movie Mysteries? Probably? They're so schmaltzy and dumb but I love the aesthetic and vibe despite that.

Honestly, if they actually made versions of them with characters that I liked and could relate to instead of wine moms, they'd be my favorite thing in the world.

I cannot stand the usual Hollywood 'chick flick' fare. I'm hardcore scifi, fantasy and occasionlly actions films. Except for Sister Acts I and II, and Sweet Home Alabama, that Reese Witherspoon film. I LOVE that film.

I watched "What a Girl Wants" for Colin Firth but ended up thinking aww, that Amanda Bynes seems like such a sweetheart... and then I ended up sad because it sounds like she's having some rough mental health issues. :(

I love the movie Little Giants, about a kids football team. I hate all other underdog sports team movies, especially ones about kids. And football is one of my least favorite sports. But I think this movie is a lot more genuine and sweet than the others. The rival sports team turns out to be a respectful opponent despite seeming like the typical bunch of snobs, and the girl who feels insecure about liking football and not being ladylike isn't a "not like other girls" character because her girly cousins and crush always thought she was cool the way she was.

Hate rom-coms, but I love Moonstruck.
Hate sports *anything*, but I love 'Remember the Titans'.

I'm obsessed with dialogue and conversations in film, and I was surprised by how much I loved 2001: A Space Odyssey because of how quiet it is.

My dad likes a lot of old westerns, things like the older James Bond movies (he doesn't care for Craig), and the occasional oddball of a movie like Joe Vs. the Volcano. And he does like Grease, but in general, he's not much of a musical fan. Or so I thought, because he really liked Mamma Mia 2. Yeah, I don't know.

- Being an emotionally stunted jerk
- Whiskey
- Chick flicks

What things do you NOT find scary that are supposed ot be?

(Anonymous) 2019-10-27 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
For me, it is the exaggerated features (too big smile dundundun). it just looks silly.

Re: What things do you NOT find scary that are supposed ot be?

(Anonymous) 2019-10-27 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Clowns and spiders. I can't take the former seriously under any circumstances (even if a clown were coming at me with a knife there'd be a part of my brain thinking "Gosh, you look pathetic.") and where I live the latter aren't poisonous so I just leave them alone and don't fear them.

Re: What things do you NOT find scary that are supposed ot be?

(Anonymous) 2019-10-28 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
It's hard for me to really get scared by a lot of the monsters, like werewolves and vampires* and the like. They're entertaining creatures, sure, and yeah, if I actually were to encounter one for real I'd be freaked out by them...

...but since I know that won't ever happen, then I just see them as interesting creatures in a movie and that's it.

*Nosferatu being perhaps the lone exception to that.

I also can't get all that creeped out by demon possession movies, 'cause I'm not religious. If anything, the thing that unnerves me the most about those films is how the religious folks react to the possessed person, how extreme they're willing to go in trying to combat it.

Clowns. I've always liked clowns and they've never scared me. Not even like, It-type clowns.

Anything fictional. I'm more likely to find things based on real life scary. Serial killers are scary to me.. Monsters are not scary to me. Clowns are not scary to me. Also bugs are not scary. Not even in giant form. Nor are snakes.

I'm not scared at all of spiders. I think they're cute! I could almost understand being scared of the venomous ones, but I know so many people that even hate completely harmless house spiders-- and I love those the most! They eat other bugs!

Also jumpscares don't seem to work on me at all. I guess I don't startle easily? Growing up with an older brother got me too used to having something pop out of the dark to "scare" me, hahaha.

Clowns. They're just boring and annoying. Zombies, I just find them disgusting, not scary.
But most of all: Skeletons. We all have one inside of us. They always smile. And they should logically fall apart any second because there's nothing holding those bones together.
