My point is also that the first book in the series might not actually be representative of the whole series, the same way that Colour of Magic isn't really representative of Discworld!

AYRT—point, except my friend is now halfway through Kill the Farm Boy and loving it, so maybe not. I get the feeling that there’s as much gross out humor in the second book as the first, anyway. I always thought my tolerance for poop jokes was pretty high, but somehow the writing really put me off. It does remind me of very early Pratchett in that most characters feel like walking punchlines first, people second.
