Only if they're doing it out of the blue or nobody else wants to go there, though? In specific situations, sure, there are lots of red flags for RPers and gamers and fondness for that kind of thing IS one of them, but OP seems to be making a blanket statement for EVERY situation, which is what confuses me.

Like, the cast of Critical Role for instance is okay with getting pretty darn dark in public in an RPG setting and I would never say any of them are waving red flags.
