And what gets me is that basically the message ends up being that Ted's dreams of a family and kids are the objectively best dreams and that there was something wrong with Robin's dreams and that she had to change who she was. That's what bugs me the most.
Also, by the end, Ted was really unlikable to be honest and even the Mother didn't deserve to be stuck with him, but at least that pairing worked and they fit each other.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-07 04:01 am (UTC)(link)A proper ending for Ted would have shown him no longer having an ounce of romantic feeling for a woman he simply never fit with. His late 20/30 year old self thought love was enough but his 40/50 year old self should have come out wiser than that. Love doesn’t magically change people. "Love" doesn't make a person want kids, stop being self sufficient to a fault, or keep them from putting their career before anything else. A couple needs to have the same life goals in order to be successful. I know some people like to think that love just fixes everything but it doesn’t. It’s a naive and even harmful idea in some cases. But who cares about logic? French horn of destiny! Yay!

(Anonymous) 2019-11-07 12:01 am (UTC)(link)The only way that ending makes sense is if you take two of their negative traits. Ted always goes back to his exs when he's feeling down and Robin always wants what she can't have. Which makes the ending even more sad as it means Ted and Robin will fail again and they should've gone for therapy instead of falling back into old patterns.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-06 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)There's actually a ton of contradictions between the ending from s7-s8. For example, in 46 minutes Ted says "Robin traveled the world but was never alone" then the ending has Robin essentially shunning the group while the group calls her an ice queen. Then there's that s8 ep which has Robin and Lily talking through the years about the time Robin lost Marvin's stroller which shows Lily and Robin as friends during a time when Robin was supposed to be completely isolated from the group.
There were so many other instances (like s3 showing that Aunt Robin was a cool aunt to his kids) that showed a complete contradiction to the end.
Anyways, there's an official alternate ending from the last season dvd and that's all that matters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoHUs8J7x94
Tracy lives in this ending. The showrunners confirmed that the smile between Barney and Robin was because they got back together.
"Never alone" what crap

(Anonymous) 2019-11-07 12:21 am (UTC)(link)I just couldn't stand Barney and Robin as a couple (I think the only woman I ever liked him with was Nora).

(Anonymous) 2019-11-07 12:56 am (UTC)(link)So I guess even though I hated the show, I don't hate the ending?

(Anonymous) 2019-11-07 03:03 am (UTC)(link)you mean like Robin telling Ted, repeatedly, consistently, that it wasn't going to happen between them?
