I never understood this way of thinking. A lot of people who go to psychics get a lot of comfort from going. Even if they are paying money what's the harm? I think it's more harmful to tell people that the 'comfort' they received is fake and their loved one is dead in the ground and they'll never see them again. To me, it's not 'preying on the vulnerable' if the person feels genuine comfort and relief after seeing a medium and it helps them in their grief.
If it helps people to believe there is an afterlife then what's the harm if they're, in turn, not harming other people with that belief?
In the end, none of us actually know for sure until we die. IF there is nothing we're not going to be around to be happy we were right. If there isn't then all the skeptics will realise they were wrong.
It irritates me, tbh. If someone saw a psychic and was convinced their loved one 'came through' then let them have that comfort and reassurance ffs. IMO people who want to take that away from them are doing more harm than good and I find THAT repulsive!

And cults are great, aren't they. They make people happy and give them a sense of purpose.

There are better, more legitimate ways for a grieving person to find comfort. Psychics and the like don't have altruistic intentions. All they want is your money, and the repulsive aspect comes from them deliberately preying on people who are grieving and hurt. Just because someone finds comfort in something does not mean that something is good or healthy.

People who go to psychics for this sort of thing rarely go one time, either. They're usually repeat clients and psychics ain't cheap.

I have no issue with people finding comfort in going to a psychic. My issue is that many psychics are predatory scammers who are taking advantage of their grief.

+1. People who do one-off readings or go on TV, whatever, that's fine. But so many of them are money-making cults preying on bereaved people and they're disgusting. I have a friend whose very young child died and she's very into all of this, and spends a lot of money on it, and the pressure tactics they use on her are disgusting.
