Re: The gripe thread

I have a friend that jumped fandoms to a fandom that I really, really dislike, which is obviously fine-- we met through a mutual fandom, but I'd been under the impression that she was more than just a "fandom friend." I didn't expect we'd stay in the same fandom forever, and again, it's fine that she's now in this one I hate, but... she knows I hate it. I mean, I'm into stuff that she hates too, so I just... don't talk to her about it, so I kind of expected the same courtesy? But instead it's a lot of "I know you don't care about [fandom], but [something about that fandom I genuinely don't care about]!"

I'm trying. I try to find the common threads and go along with the conversations, but even after trying to talk to her about the fact that I'm struggling to find things to say because of my dislike for this fandom (which she briefly apologizes for then seems to promptly forget), I'm just kind of running out of steam.

More concerning, she's slowly detonating all of the friendships that she'd made in our shared fandom. Rationally, I know it's only a matter of time before I'm next. It really feels like she's trying to "reinvent" herself in this new fandom, and... who knows, maybe that's what she'd done when she started in our shared one. Maybe this is just what she does. But it kind of hurts.
