Re: The gripe thread

There's a new guy at my work, and he stinks. He's obese (I'd say he's 350+ pounds) and smells like he is unable to clean himself properly after shitting. He also wears the same dirty/stained clothes every day, he has three shirts and a pair of pants that also smell. This guy has made me and other coworkers gag with his stench and it lingers in rooms after he leaves, like the break room smells terrible after he's been in there. I take my lunch after he does and made the mistake of sitting in the chair he had clearly been sitting in, and I literally had to wash my clothes that night because they smelled like him. And don't even think about using the bathroom for at least a half hour after he's been in there.

I feel awful for this guy. He is a relatively nice person and he's definitely trying, he told me he has struggled with his weight and depression and has actually lost about 150 pounds. I feel for him, I really do. But I don't know how much longer I can stand working with him. I know some of my coworkers were going to go to management and make a complaint, but things at my company tend to move slowly so who knows how much longer it will take, or even what can be done about it (like I said, the guy smells like he can't wipe himself, so I don't know what good a conversation about hygiene will wind up doing).

:(

Ouch that's tough. :( I agree it sounds like a personal hygiene issue, likely stemming from the depression as well as maybe not being able to uh...reach. But not washing his clothes is probably a significant problem, too.

It's be kinder if someone who genuinely likes him could take him aside for a discreet word.
