Not to be all "the real treasure was the friends we made along the way" but. IDK, at a certain point I kinda taught myself to relax and not worry about whether or not the central mystery arc actually made sense. I think it was around when I realized that all the best X-Files episodes were Monster of the Week, possibly.

I also never watched Lost, which may help here.

Oooh OP, I feel the exact same way. And it never ceases to bother me when the explanation falls flat.

It's really sad when they ALMOST make it, too. Darling in the Franxx was an example of that for me, though that's not set in a little town, it's based around a central world mystery.

I like those too and I definitely agree with you.

Same,OP. I still love Twin Peaks even though I didn't like how it ended. Haven is another one with the same problem.

I loved the main mystery of Twin Peaks and found that very satisfying (and fucking terrifying)! But they put so much meandering garbage around it (and in the third season in particular so much gratuitous violence against women) that it gets hard to enjoy it.

There are a lot of shows with small town mysteries and lots of secrets, but they mostly don't have the supernatural/weirdness aspects of something like Twin Peaks. Some of them have pretty good endings though. I loved Broadchurch, the first season anyway. But that doesn't seem to be what you're looking for.

If you have Netflix try Les Revenants or Dark (if you don't mind foreign languages).

You beat me to the punch, Anon! Was just going to recommend Dark. :)

That's one of my favourite tropes too! Have you seen the Castle Rock series? It's based on Stephen King's works, but not written by him.

Kingdom Hospital is another one I enjoyed.
