Not to be all "the real treasure was the friends we made along the way" but. IDK, at a certain point I kinda taught myself to relax and not worry about whether or not the central mystery arc actually made sense. I think it was around when I realized that all the best X-Files episodes were Monster of the Week, possibly.

I also never watched Lost, which may help here.
