Well, the OCC-ness if a character is a completely subjective idea. What defines the character, to us as spectators, if not its interactions with other characters? Who defines OCC-ness in the first place?

It's not what they do, it's how they do it.

That's not necessarily true. Some people wouldn't do things, period.

Similarly: Some couples are more OOC than others, period. Not all pairings are created equal. That doesn't mean we shouldn't treat fans of other pairings with respect anyway, but the simple fact of the matter is that sometimes it is OOC to break up a pairing and that's that. I've not watched GL so I can't comment on Simon/Nia.

No, some are incredibly difficult to write believably. But not automatically OOC or impossible.

No it isn't.

What if, like in this case, the creators themselves have stated that the characters are meant to be together and will end up together in any alternate universe? It strikes me that pairing them with anyone else after that would automatically be OOC because it's going against what the creators of the show themselves have specifically stated to be true.

It would certainly go against canon, but that's not the same thing as being OOC. Being IC is not about who a character falls for, it's how the character goes about doing it. That's why a good AU can be completely IC, while still differing from the canon.

Also, it's not really that hard to remedy anyway; all you have to do is write them falling out of love at a later date, or that their love is completely platonic (depending on how you interpret the creator's statements).
