OP here. You can indeed write an IC story about Simon without Nia or a story about Nia without Simon... I just don't like when they intend those stories to be romantic. And they're free to write whatever they want, I just think they're OOC.

That's fair enough. I think it's possible for someone to love more than one person in their life, and in fact for someone to love more than one person at a time, so I approach it differently. Really, the problem I have with the secret isn't so much "I think it's OOC" as "I think the characters are completely, 100% OOC" as if the only important part of their characterization is that they are a pair or nothing. If... that makes sense. XD

Also, not the OP, but the creators specifically stated that Simon and Nia were meant to be together and would end up together in any universe, so yeah, I would say it's OOC to pair them with anyone else just because the creators made that point very clear.

Again, that's not my argument -- I have no problem with people saying that it is OOC to have these characters in anotherwise canon situation and ignore the pairing. Again, I don't think the fact that they're together in every universe completely discounts the idea of one or both of them with other people before, after, or even during their relationship, but that's my take on it, and I don't mind if people don't agree with that as long as they're civil.

Like I said, I don't have a problem with the "it's OOC" argument. It's the argument that pairing them with other people is not only OOC, it makes everything about the characters 100% OOC. Again, unless that pairing is 100% of their characterizations and personalities, that doesn't work, and if that was the case the show would not be as good as it is.

To sum up, pretty much, that pairing is intrinsic to the characters but it is not all of the characters, hence them being completely in every way OOC if they're not a pairing is a pretty huge exaggeration.
