Personally, I like his design (even though I did think he looked like a bowling pin when I saw the trailer). It's just pleasing to me.

?? Is this really even a thing? Like is there anything people won't try to blow out of proportion to the point it's completely ridiculous?

More than one of my friends (who don't know each other) have gotten angry about this particular movie and the "trend" even though they've never talked about it before and they usually don't examine things under a microscope to find ways to read them as problematic. It's very odd.

I hate Pixar art in general. Too goofy looking, immediately shuts me off.

He has an odd look I guess, kinda like if someone held a magnifying glass over a caricature. The whole over rounded minimalistic design was already an Odo-like approximation of a human being, and now it's just descending into pure Flubber territory.

... he doesn't look any weirder than any other Pixar character? I mean, look at the characters from Up and Coco and The Incredibles. They were all incredibly stylized as well.

It's the specific brand of weird that's slightly off-putting to me. Honestly? He looks like one of those other Pixar characters as seen through the peep-hole of a hotel room door. And then you've combined that weirdly focused distortion with hyper-realistic mustache hair. The whole thing ends up looking a little... wrong.
