This is not really a secret...? Just a missed opportunity at promoting the author's work?

Also, anon, I hate to say it, but English-speaking readers tend to avoid reading translated books unless they get really big or really critically acclaimed, so getting translated might do absolutely nothing for that author. Globalisation of culture is still mostly a one-way street.

Touche. Although when the secret is made in English and posted in an English-language space, I think its safe to assume that the secret-maker wants the author to be known in the dominat English-speaking sphere.

He could still get popular in other non-English speaking countries. A lot of translated non-English writers are popular in mine, especially a lot of Scandinavian ones.
