I mean....duh? if Oda goes for direct mirrors it's obviously the character introduced in chapter 1 alongside Luffy, not someone else.

I love me some Smoker but he's his own character. Then again I won't believe Oda will do direct mirrors with anything Roger until he does it. One of the main themes of One Piece is Luffy does things his own way and only occasionally does it remind people of something similar but not exactly the same as Roger did. Then again, this fandom has some serious problems with understand nuance in the first place.
