Seasonal treats!
(Anonymous) 2019-11-29 01:28 am (UTC)(link)Re: Seasonal treats!
(Anonymous) 2019-11-29 01:30 am (UTC)(link)But then yesterday it was cold and rainy like its supposed to be at the end of November where I live (Northern California), and as I was out walking I could smell the woodmoke from someone's fire place, and was disturbed by how apprehensive I was suddenly feeling, and then there was the realization that I now associate the once-loved scent of wood smoke with the devastating, lethal fires that have plagued my entire state for the past few years. Bittersweet indeed.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-29 01:48 am (UTC)(link)I love my great grandmother's butter tarts (butter tarts MUST have vinegar in them or they're too sweet and flat tasting).
Gingersnaps can be really good, as long as they're moist not dry.

Same with Pfeffernusse cookies - only at Xmas! They're all brown sugar, molasses, cloves, actual pepper, ginger. Rolled hot in powdered sugar and sealed up in a tin for a day or so - heaven!

(Anonymous) 2019-11-29 04:33 am (UTC)(link)I know stuffing varies a lot depending on who makes it/where they’re from, etc, but I use half homemade cornbread and half stale sourdough, with celery, leeks, onions, yellow and green bell peppers, walnuts, and pine nuts, fake chicken broth (I’m vegetarian), and fresh rosemary, marjoram, sage, thyme, and parsley.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-29 11:16 am (UTC)(link)I don't know the common term in English, but I love chocolate figurines, those hollow, unfilled little statues of Santa or the Easter bunny. I don't know if they really count as seasonal, they're just chocolate in a different form after all and anyway you can get chocolate figurines all year round in specialty shops in all kinds of shapes. Buuut there's just something about unwrapping the foil without tearing it and taking the first bite out of the hat/ears that I don't get from eating a piece from a bar.
And I just realized I missed my chance at getting a St. Martin's day treat. Bakeries sell shaped yeast pastries, the specific shape depending on the region.
So I guess I mostly like everyday treats in season specific shapes.
