It's okay not to want that, but by trying to remove that option for everyone, just on the basis that they themselves can't handle it, is bullshit.

I agree with this. I just don't see a lot of people who are trying to remove that option for everyone. I've never seen anyone argue not to give concrit. I've seen a lot of people argue you shouldn't give concrit unless invited. And I do see plenty of authors inviting concrit.

And like, personally, I'd rather it was the other way around: concrit is fine unless the author requests no concrit. But I can also see the logic behind people having to opt in to concrit rather than people having to opt out of it.

Yeah. I'm actually the original commenter of the flame secret the other day. In the replies to my original comment there was someone who tried to advocate, 'no crit ever!' so I may have been a little defensive due to that.
I agree though, I'd rather see it the other way around as well. I used to critique everything I read a few years ago, but somewhere along the line I stopped that on the off chance that I offended someone. I'm currently trying to break out of that habit;; Wish me luck...

OT, but I'm curious...

What does the ";;" you always put in comments mean? (At least there's someone who comments here regularly that does it all the time...sorry if that's not you and there's more than one person doing it!)

Is it supposed to be an emoji of some kind? I've never seen it anywhere else and it's bugging me not knowing what it means, lol.

Yeah, it's an emoji of sorts. Kinda like an abbreviation of the ;_; face, or used like a 'what am I gonna do' type of deal. Sorta like that? I picked it up years ago, and it's kinda a tick these days.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

AYRT - I feel you. About ten years ago, I actually made a point of always including some concrit in my comments, even if it was just a tiny bit, because I thought it made my comments better. Lol. Now I look back on some of my comments and cringe a little. I'm sure it was not always appreciated.
