107. I think it was still cute, and purposefully so, even if that kind of negative theme was there. I mean, didn't it basically say 'lol btw her emotions are just simulations no matter how real they seem, she's just really advanced technology'? Ahhh, I'm torn on the series as a whole.

117. I ship it, but I ship everything. I think I just like seeing any kind of relationship take any turn possible - so a platonic relationship becoming romantic or vise versa is fun for me to mess with. I understand that they were bff and brothers, and that that's amazing without buttsex. But buttsex is also interesting, and I think imagining new romances between any given characters is fun. :(

124. Do you need to have a reason? Are people REALLY questions why you want a differently colored scarf? oAo;;;

140. Oh, that's cute :O

142. Ummmm I haven't been in fandom for years, but I recall quite a bit of fic and art for them. Doujin, too.

147. An excellent goal.

153. I think whale-sized people should be perfectly allowed, they just shouldn't wear revealing outfits, like that, and will probably want to put more effort into accuracy/awesomeness in the costume itself, to distract.

117 OP

You see, all I mean is that I believe some relationships are better "sexless".

Re: 117 OP

[identity profile] never-winged.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand. o/

But I, on the other hand, think all relationships are fun to explore, regardless of what makes them 'better' or how much/little/defined canon they have.

uhhh this is [livejournal.com profile] coloa btw

Yeah, but I just don't see how relationship = sex. :/

Re: 117 OP

[identity profile] never-winged.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Most romantic relationships eventually lead to sex. I'm not sure I understand your problem anymore, I'm sorry.

But I, on the other hand, think all relationships are fun to explore, regardless of what makes them 'better' or how much/little/defined canon they have.

1) That isn't on the other hand at all.
2) "Exploring" a relationship does not mean taking it in every possible direction.
3) If you're "exploring" completely regardless of canon then you're ceasing to explore their relationship, you're just imagining a new one with no context.

Re: 117 OP

[identity profile] never-winged.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, really? I'm sorry.

I guess I felt like there are so many different directions you could go in, and trying to figure out each different kind of relationship they could have while still keeping the characters IC and such... I thought that qualified as exploring their relationship possibilities, but that's my mistake. :(

Sorry to have irritated you, you sound bothered. Well, it's just text, but, haha

Re: 117 OP

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
If you're keeping them IC, then yes, you're exploring relationships. If you're ignoring canon, less so. Canon is a part of the characters being IC. So... You started by saying that you want to explore "regardless of canon" and then said you wanted to keep them IC. There's kind of a disconnect there.

You haven't irritated me, it's been a long day and I'm already feeling a little curt. Sorry.

Re: 117 OP

[identity profile] never-winged.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm... For example, pairing up characters that only spoke once. Regardless of their minimal interaction in canon, it's still fun to try to figure out how they would be together based on their canon personalities. So, kind of like that, if that makes sense? I meant 'regardless of canon' not as in just flat out ignoring it, but not limiting the relationship to 'oh they talked twice so there's no relationship there' and stuff.

orz does that make any sense at all, I'm sorry, I'm bad at explaining my thoughts.

Re: 117 OP

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
That makes sense, yes, and I think I understand you.

On a side note though, I don't think characters need to speak to one another at all to have some connection. There's usually other stuff in canon that would give them something to talk about or some kind of baseline relationship that can be taken in different directions.

142 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-10-30 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not a fandom noob either, but Russel/Ed seriously doesn't have a fanbase comparable to so many other pairings. Just saying that I always believed that their dynamic deserved so much more in fandom.

Re: 142 OP

[identity profile] coloa.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oops, sorry. I didn't mean for that to come off so rude - I also didn't mean to say you were a fandom noob. I just meant that I'm not exactly up to date.

idk, I'm assuming that Russel didn't get as much attention because he simply wasn't there as long as the other characters, and doesn't have as big a role and as much development. It's true that it doesn't get enough attention in comparison to the others, but there's still a little bit of stuff out there at least? orz

No hard feelings.

I know the reasons as clearly as the next disappointed Russ/Ed fan. This is just my way of complaining to the world. :b

Fair enough. :O

Re: 107

[identity profile] trustyoursins.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
I actually thought the "her emotions aren't real!!" thing was not only completely unnecessary, it went totally against the whole point the story was trying to make. D: I'm hoping that was actually just a problem with the mistranslation, do you know if the series ever actually said that in the original Japanese?

Re: 107

[identity profile] coloa.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
That seems like a pretty huge thing to mistranslate, and I think it was the point the story was trying to make. :O But that's just my opinion.

Re: 107

[identity profile] trustyoursins.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know -- the entire story up to that point was showing pretty clearly that Chii and Freya did have emotions. Hell, Freya fell in love with her father to the point that letting him go was killing her. Chii was obviously completely upset, near-devistated, at the idea that Hideki might not love her, hence her bringing about the main climax of the story.

It doesn't really matter if those emotions were just programmed in. It seemed as if for the entire story, Clamp was trying to show that emotions are emotions, that human emotions are no more "real" than those of persocoms just because the latters' emotions stem from their AI, then at the end there was a line stuck in going "BUT ALL THAT'S NOT IMPORTANT." I don't think the fact that Chii really is "just a persocom" is a mistranslation, but the idea slipped in there that it somehow makes her emotions more fake than a normal person's (THE LOVE IS A LIE?!). "Just a persocom" has emotions that are as real to him/her and the people that care about him/her as any human beings, and such a line felt totally discordant in the midst of that. :x!

Re: 107

[identity profile] coloa.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Ummm, like I said, it's just my opinion? I'm not trying to challenge what you got from the series.

I just think... It doesn't really matter if those emotions were just programmed in but the fact remains that they were just programmed in. Whether that makes them fake or real or important or not doesn't matter to me in the slightest. They might be just as good as a real person's, and that's fine, but it does not make them real. :O;;;

Re: 107

[identity profile] trustyoursins.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
Ah I know! I was just. Kind of trying to explain where I was coming from? XD I didn't mean to come across as arguing, I just jump at the chance to go "OMG DISCUSSION" with people. ;;

That's the bit I think we disagree on, though, basically. XD What makes emotions "real"? If they are just as good as a real person, if they're just as important to the person feeling them and to those who care, it seems as if that might make them real even if they stemmed from circuits in a machine instead of synapses firing in a brain. Idk, again not trying to argue, but that's... sort of where I thought Clamp was going with it, hence why I thought it might have been a sloppy translation? akjsfhkasf I don't know. Just got a sort of "love is love is love" from the rest of the story, so the "but it's not real love" bit stuck in there threw me for a loop. XD;

Re: 107

[identity profile] coloa.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, no, it's fine. oAo;;; I think I just got a little scared seeing your "you are a retard" comment to the OP.

Yeah. Well, there's really no point in arguing 'where clamp was going this.' Whether you believe their own words and the translations or not, you're not psychic, and all you can do is interpret. :O

For me I felt like it was

"Love is love is fake is love," haha.

Re: 107

[identity profile] trustyoursins.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha, sorry. XD I didn't really mean it for their opinion, if that helps? Mostly for the whole "I DESPISE YOU IF YOU CAN'T SEE HOW DEEP AND HORRIBLE THIS STORY IS! EPIDEMIC OF EVIL COMPUTERS!" message in there. ;;

Yeah, all I can really do is kind of go by my own interpretations. Unfortunately I doubt that line, as it is, will make sense to me in the confines of the story anytime soon. Damn. XD

"Love is love is fake is love."

... pffft I lol'd. Epic line is epic.

I felt the irresistable need to use these keywords and have no idea why I haven't before now. 8D;;;;

Re: 107

[identity profile] syndromed.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think, to be fair, it's a fair enough message. \(O_o)/ If we get to the point when people are honestly falling in love with robots, that is scary. To me. So. :O On the up-side, you don't think I'm retarded for my opinion on the series, but on the down side, you do for something else... Hahaha~ That's fine anyway, though.

?? Is it? That's just what I got from the series. They went out of their way to say her emotions are still fake, and the main character goes out of his way to say that doesn't matter, so. :O

Ironically, I was also redoing icons, so uh, this is still [livejournal.com profile] coloa.

Re: 107

[identity profile] trustyoursins.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
Ohnonono, I mean. The message of "CLAMP MEANT THIS TO BE A DYSTOPIAN MANGA" and "IF YOU LIKE THIS SERIES AND THINK IT'S CUTE THEN I DESPISE YOU." Worrying about people falling in love with robots doesn't bother me, though I don't feel the same, for basically the reasons I stated (what makes love "real" and the difference between real and fake emotions -- at what point is an AI program so advanced that their emotions are as valid as a normal human's?), but that's whole different ballgame and I don't think you're a retard for disagreeing.

Ah, yeah, I can kind of get that. Though again, given values of fake... meh. I guess I just find the idea that someone can feel emotions that strongly and have them still be "fake" just because they're not a flesh-and-blood human kind of weird, but I totally get where you're coming from.

Awwwww so cute Rika. ;A; ♥
