I hate the idea that housewives had have no life and are shitty persons by default. And that a woman can't aspire to have children or a marriage if they wanna be strong career ladies. I mean, how dares Hermione have kids and get married ~~to someone else than Harry~~! She always has to be strong, witty, and willing to use magic if someones upsets her and her bushy hair!

... Shit like this is one of the reasons why us feminists are seen less as people who want genuine freedom for women and more as a bunch of idiots who are just too happy to bitch bitch bitch. I like to think that I can choose whether I stay at home or go outside to work without having others shouting "If you choose kids then you're a sell-out whore who sets back the women's movement, and if you choose work then think of the poor baaaby chiiiilluuuuunz!"

First off, I am not a Hermione/Harry shipper - but that's beside the point, as I thought I made it clear that my grievances were not due to any shipping violations.

I am not criticizing Hermione's marriage and child. I simply did not like how much of a focal point it was that everybody got married and had kids. It is such a ridiculous cliche, happily-ever-after ending that, in my personal opinion, ignores a lot of really interesting potential material - specifically the aftermath of the war.

ibroketuesday said it perfectly in a comment above: "What I wanted from the epilogue was a look at how the world had changed, all the repercussions political and personal, how the characters had picked themselves and their lives back up - I wanted a glimpse into the aftermath that felt real, and emotional, and important. Instead I got the names they gave their kids and who they ended up marrying. "

Good point: housewives, I suppose, can have good lives. At the same time, does Hermione ever strike you as someone who would find contentment raising the kids and doing the laundry? She's not particularly domestic.

Women who themselves aren't domestic tend to view a woman like Hermione who is more talented than her husband but has been implied to be a housewife (like s good wizarding mum, staying home to pre-educated the kids) as kind of a waste of talent. It strikes us as strange that someone so competitive and eager to succeed in the world would give it all up to stay home and dedicate herself to private life.

It's clearly a woman's choice, but seems OOC.

Interesting that you assume that awrydd meant housewives are terrible fuckwads by that statement.

The issue is not her housewivery persona. It is that she seems simplified down to this "little-wife/mommy" personality down from her "I'm-not-taking-shit-from-anybody, hell, I'm-changing-time-to-suit-my-class-needs" to "Oh, bye, honeyyyyy! I PACKED YOU LUNCH! CALL ME WHEN YOU GET THERE!" without the complimentary handle of her career in the Ministry and how she runs the house or truly geniunely cares for her kids. She just got knocked down to a passive role from an active role.

Obviously, strong career ladies can get married and have babies. And you know what? The idea that you think the public views feminists are "a bunch of idiots who are just too happy to bitch bitch bitch" in response to this articulate, reasonable comment makes me think that you've had too many run-ins with dumbfucks in your time. I'm sorry for that, but awrydd doesn't seem to be one of your opponents, comrade.
