Re: What is rustling your jimmies right now?

I have told her to get a proper therapist, but she says all the therapists she's had were unhelpful and made her depression worse so she refuses. I know there are lots of shitty therapists out there so I don't think she's lying, but she's even gotten mad at me for offering to connect her with my most recent former therapist who helped me immensely.

I've really backed myself into a corner for offering to be there for her at all, I feel like.

Her inability (and let's face it, it's more like refusal) to find a good therapist is regrettable, but it's not your problem to fix. Your friend is using you for free therapy, and as long as she can do that, she won't get the help she really needs. You'd be doing both of you a favor if you limit her emotional dump time to only what you can realistically tolerate. Don't set yourself on fire just to keep her warm.

You're not backed into a corner. You have options. You're allowed to decide that you can put up with 15 minutes of your friend bitching, then politely request a subject change (to something that is not your friend's issues) or the conversation ends. You can decide how much support you're willing offer and then draw the line at being her 24/7 emotional support animal.

Do not set yourself on fire to keep your friend warm,
