Im sorry. It would have been very disturbing and unethical for the doctor to lie, so at least it wasn't that.

Is it possible the medication is primarily to prevent diabetes but has shown some promise of preventing uterine cancer as an unintended side effect? Sure, this could have been a sneaky attempt to put you on diabetes prevention meds while implying it was only to prevent cancer, but sometimes doctors do prescribe drugs specifically for a secondary benefit.

I suggest doing a quick Google of any future meds and also reading the info that comes with them at the pharmacy. Know it sucks to read a bunch of fine print, but it's good to be informed. That's how I learned my blood pressure medication can cause dizziness but this can be prevented by taking it right before bed. My doctor didn't warn me about that ahead of time, but every doctor since has asked if I experience dizziness, but I never have because I take it just before I go to sleep!
