I don't agree.

According to IMDb, he's 5'8", an inch taller than Tom Cruise and James McAvoy. And while I do believe that actors sometimes don't get considered for some roles because of their heights (men, mostly because they are considered too short, women, mostly because they are considered too short), I don't think it is all that much of a deciding factor here. Probably, yes, ability has something to do with it - acting jobs can be sparse in comparison with the number of actors competing for them and if you aren't great, then you need something else: hustle, charisma, a vicious and/or stubborn agent, something that makes you stand out (in the "right" way), though sometimes, even if you are great you need that, too. But if you don't think racial discrimination plays a significant part, I think you are mistaken. It's hard to get a job if the casting calls aren't there (I'm willing to bet that many specify white, a few black, a very few any (a "blind" casting), and a tiny amount other (like Middle-Eastern or Asian).

Tom Cruise is 57. He got his first major role when he was 21, 7 years younger than Mena Massoud. James McAvoy is 40. His breakout role came roughly at the same age. Massoud is now, but he'd been working steadily for a decade before that. Neither of them were huge stars right off the bat.

To be clear, I'm not saying race or racism absolutely did not play a factor. I'm pointing out that there are other factors to consider in addition to racism.
