I know someone said it before (and was part a a secret), but I'm actually in the boat where I'm starting to get sick of 'lets make everyone gay'! Mostly because it's considered as canon rather than a headcanon or something just done for fun.
I'm not in the Disney fandom, but I know I would get very tired of all the 'they must be gay' talk very quickly, if only because the decision that a Princess might be happy leading her own life by her own merit is a good and solid deviation from what they typically do. It should be recognized for that at least. Saying that well, she didn't get with a dude so she must like girls, and believing it to be some sort of truth, kinda defeats the purpose of a princess being able to stand strong on her own two feet. Romance isn't everything.

AFAIK most people don't think that it's actually canon, rather they want it to be canon because they think it would be good. That's the attitude of every person that I've seen, at least.

Yeah, that's true. I've seen some people (in my own fandoms) where they get very defensive over these types of things, but you're right that the majority don't think that way. I get the want for it to be canon, I've just been rubbed the wrong way by how some of the more aggressive fans go about it, I think.

I mean, putting aside that it's mostly wishful thinking and not actually considered the truth by most people--we could have both. Princesses happily living their own lives AND princesses being in love with women. Both are good.

That's a good point! I guess I've seen people get really defensive over how they view things/how they think things should be. They're a small part of the fandom, but annoying none the less.
I would love to see both variations! I'd be very refreshing to see a princess charming that sweeps the protagonist off her feet! I guess with Elsa (I haven't watched Brave unfortunately) I almost have my self-sufficient princess, but both is definitely good!
