I mean, putting aside that it's mostly wishful thinking and not actually considered the truth by most people--we could have both. Princesses happily living their own lives AND princesses being in love with women. Both are good.

That's a good point! I guess I've seen people get really defensive over how they view things/how they think things should be. They're a small part of the fandom, but annoying none the less.
I would love to see both variations! I'd be very refreshing to see a princess charming that sweeps the protagonist off her feet! I guess with Elsa (I haven't watched Brave unfortunately) I almost have my self-sufficient princess, but both is definitely good!
