They're not unrelated. They're all ways that science has slowly changed its mind with new information and a move away from biased views. There aren't two sexes, unless you literally boil them down to "young-bearer" and "donor to create young." And even that doesn't quite fit because what about those people who CAN'T have children, defining it by the ability to bear or donate something to create young has its own problems.

The whole point of having sexual organs is to reproduce. If you can't have children is either because of a defect or because you're too old.
