It has been a slow day. My sister and brother-in-law didn't arrive until noon. We did lunch and then presents after that. My mom went all out this year. I got a really nice new burgundy blazer for work, Torrid and Amazon gift cards, some social justice-themed books that look good, a ton of bath bombs, a pound of chocolate and some other smaller things. Already spent the Amazon card. :shifty eyes: I had a ton of books in my cart, and I was able to get a bunch of them plus a cat toy.

It has just been fun to have the whole family together, even if I've had a migraine the past few hours. We had duck for dinner. Delicious pecan pie for desert. Now I'm in my room with the light off because of the headache.

My cat is not thrilled that my sisters' dog is here, but she did enjoy her Christmas present (and tried to lick some peanut butter off the dog's present too).

Okay. I'm by myself, but at least there's no drama or being forced to spend time with terrible people. Been catching up on shows I've missed and video games I haven't yet completed. Also pizza and wine and Christmas music.

Pizza, wine, and Christmas music sounds like the perfect Christmas to me. And yay for no drama. I hope the rest of your day is equally relaxing and drama free.

I am nauseous right now. I only drank one drink but there is also sickness going around my house. Got some great gifts! Ate some great food (but too much).

Oh no, I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well. I hope the nausea goes away and that it is just too much food, not the sickness others have. Glad you were able to have some fun before, though.

I’m sorry you’re not feeling well.

Mostly good. It's nice to be with family but it's also frustrating at times, just dealing with them.

Mine was quiet, which was nice. My aunt thinks she told me and my uncle her brother was hosting Christmas dinner, but really it was Christmas eve and I worked yesterday so I couldn’t go. I think she told us both Christmas eve and our brains were expecting Christmas day and we fucked up.

So after making Christmas breakfast (waffles with berries and maple syrup and whipped cream, sparkling cider, and fake bacon), roommate and I opened presents and then I just loafed around, napped a bit because I spent so much time prepping for Christmas dinner for 10+ people (hoo boy I don’t have to buy food until after New Years), hung out with my chickens, and took a walk. My aunt and uncle came by and dropped off my present and I gave them theirs and gifts to pass along to my pseudo-cousins. Gonna feed my disabled hen, shower, and fall over because I have to work tomorrow.

I'm the person from a couple of days ago that had her mother re-gift body lotion that the neighbor had bought for her. Wellll.....I received $200 on Christmas Eve day from Mom so I'm okay and I stand corrected!

It's been okay. I had to have a tooth pulled two weeks ago and the spot is still infected and so I'm on another round of antibiotics and my sleeping's been screwed up, but my fiance and I got some Chinese food for dinner, and that was really fun.

Okay. Not quite as much drama as the other years. We have my uncle over again who has been inviting himself over for 3 weeks every Christmas for the last few years which is pretty grating because he does not stop talking and always follows you everywhere. My brother came over on Christmas eve and the 25th and will be coming over on the 26th as well (We have two Christmas holidays here) and I always have to drive him back because he doesn't drive. He always brings his dog and the dog keeps getting in the way which is massively annoying when cooking. And he smells. The dog, not the brother- usually.

But now my mother is playing her game of "let's spray the whole house with old disgusting perfume in place of air freshener to get rid of the food smell even though she knows full well perfume and string smells are my main migraine trigger and now I'm in pain and feel sick and I'm kinda disgruntled.

Wow, this came out so late......

Very nice. Had all my windows open and the heat off, it was 70 degrees! Had a little xmas gift-giving and visiting, and then spent the rest of the day reading and watching The Expanse over again.

Yuletide

(Anonymous) 2019-12-26 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
So I participated in the Yuletide fic exchange this year, and while I'm happy to say that my recipient loved the fic I wrote for them, I'm kind of in an awkward spot with the fic written for me. See, the author wrote a sort of crossover with a fandom I'm not familiar with. Specifically, it was an AU of the fandom I requested set in the universe of a movie I've never seen. They said in their notes that you don't need to have seen the movie to understand what was going on, but I...did not find that to be the case. It was well-written (I think) and had my OTP end up together and all, but I didn't always know what exactly was happening, and I'm not sure how to respond. I don't want to be rude or ungrateful, because the author clearly worked hard on it, but I'm not entirely sure what to say beyond "Cool, thanks!" Does anyone have any advice?

Re: Yuletide

Writing AUs and crossovers for gift!fic is a bit dodgy unless they've specifically been asked for by the recip. I understand your feelings.

Don't have a clue as to how to comment, though. Sorry, mate.

If you're looking to sound enthusiastic, pick out a couple bits you enjoyed in particular and point to them. At this point, I wouldn't make a big deal about the crossover aspect - it sounds like they took you at your word on being good with AUs and ran a little too far with it, which is unfortunate but neither your nor their fault - but specifically DNW fusions and crossovers (or at least fusions and crossovers with fandoms you didn't request, if you'd be okay with someone melding two of your requested fandoms) in the future so you don't wind up with a surprise unfamiliar-fandom fusion fic again.

Do a quick read-up on the movie on Wiki so you get it a bit more, choose a couple scenes/things you really liked to mention/quote, and thank them in an excited way.

I'm glad you like the fic, it's a bit weird they did a crossover with something you don't know, but at least you liked it (mostly), and your OTP got the story you wanted.

Strange Fandom Rut

(Anonymous) 2019-12-26 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not even sure to call it a rut, but instead of engaging with fandom, I just go on subreddits to look at memes and meta.

I haven't read any new fanfic within my favorite fandoms. Maybe I should try reading fanfics outside of my fandoms, where I don't have any expectations?
