I'm kinda bored of redemption = insta!death as I want some level of atonement beyond the main players but I mostly agree with you. Despite usually loving villains, I wouldn't say I was a big Kylo fan but seeing him get to be Ben again and going out that way was quite nice.

The only thing I didn't "like" (though that's strong given the context) was I felt they wanted Leia to be the one to talk him round. But y'know, circumstances. I thought Han showing up was done well and very sweet though - especially with the mirror with his death scene.

tbh if it hadn't been for said circumstances i'm pretty sure it would have been leia, but... y'know. that's something i can't fault the movie for at all bc it was completely out of their hands, so i'll take han in her place. it still manages to work.

Exactly. It's the one thing I can't criticise at all in the end because they didn't want to use Carrie's image in a way that would be required to fill in all the gaps and the scene with Han was perhaps one of my favourite parts regardless.

I was really annoyed by him the first two movies but somehow his arc is the highlight of this one to me. I had no strong feelings about Adam Driver before this, and never cared to watch his other work, but he really impressed me there. SOMEHOW he sold that in-between state of larger-than-him force influences fighting within him, which honestly I don't think anyone truly has before him (not really Luke, definitely not Rey, Anakin kinda just jumped back and forth across that line between scenes...).

Kinda wanted him to live cause now that I actually care, I want a proper redemption arc where he has to actually face judgement from the lives he destroyed, but that's probably too dark for Disney so I guess dead he is (in canon).

This was so frustrating to me because all the films have been about 'finding balance in the force' and they had a Perfect opportunity for that with Ben Solo and Rey!!! And Abrams Throws it All Away for a Smooch!
