This was my problem with it...so what was the point in Anakin's arc then? I think this feeds into my greater issue in that I refuse to believe there was a firm plan for the sequel trilogy. There were inconsistencies and tonal shifts between the films in the OT and the PT sure, but not to this extent.

Same. Too bad there isn't much post-ROS threesome fic (yet?)

I didn't ship them before ROS, but then I didn't really ship anyone in the sequel trilogy before this movie (I wasn't anti any ships, and I did like the idea of both Finn/Rey and Finn/Poe, I just wasn't reading fic or seriously rooting for any ships).

I also didn't ship Rey/Kylo before this movie but now I ship Rey/Ben a bit!

This is one thing that I have never gotten. It's ALWAYS been true that a Jedi could be anyone, regardless of parentage. Obi-Wan was nobody. Yoda was nobody. Pretty much all the Jedi in the prequels were nobodies. Even if he was the Chosen One, Anakin was still a slave from basically the end of nowhere.

And if you expand outside of the movies, Ezra and Ahsoka aren't from any great lineages and they're the heroes of their shows. It's already been established that anyone could be strong in the Force. I have never agreed that Rey being a nobody was some shocking turn for the SW universe.

I was really disappointed by the prequel trilogy after having loved the original trilogy (and having liked some of the extended universe books and even the not great TV movies The Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor), so I decided I just wasn't going to watch this sequel trilogy. I think this was the right choice for me, given what I've seen from a distance of the present works and fandom. I will be enjoying the original trilogy and some bits of the extended universe, pretending the prequel trilogy was a fever dream, and 'aww'ing at Baby Yoda (or The Child, if you prefer) pics, vids, and gifs because he's so fricking cute. You should try to take what you want from Star Wars, too, and let the rest fall away.

I'm kinda bored of redemption = insta!death as I want some level of atonement beyond the main players but I mostly agree with you. Despite usually loving villains, I wouldn't say I was a big Kylo fan but seeing him get to be Ben again and going out that way was quite nice.

The only thing I didn't "like" (though that's strong given the context) was I felt they wanted Leia to be the one to talk him round. But y'know, circumstances. I thought Han showing up was done well and very sweet though - especially with the mirror with his death scene.

I actually respect them for not completely zombie-CGing it to give her a bigger role. Yes it was a little jarring at times as they had to make the best of the footage they had but I think they really did do what they could with it.

I can get totally down with the secret because forced marriage is one of my favorite fic as long as it ends HEA.

BUT Joy looked perfectly fine. She looked like the average teenager. I like when the cast real looking people instead of "Hollyweird" good looking for every character. Most people are just average looking and it makes any show more believable to have an average looking cast.
