Because kids like high pitched voices.

I was definitely one messed-up kid then. Even when I was the target audience, I found 'voices children like' to be annoying at best and grating at worst. :p

I know the friend was supposed to have an annoying voice, but she's the only one I can remember offhand who had that ear shattering of a voice.

Because you're listening from a distance and higher pitches travel better? It doesn't seem any more weighted to high-pitched voices than any other Disney movie to me.

Yeah I thought it was actually pretty mild in the 'high squealing voice' department compared to some other kids' movies/shows I've seen. But different people find different sounds to be grating so *shrug*
