I really want an actual unbiased reported-out breakdown of how the plotting worked across the trilogy between JJ, RJ, et al

For example - at what point was it decided that Rey and Kylo would be strongly connected/have a force dyad thingy? And who did that come from? Because I feel like that got pumped way up between 7 and 8.

I have a feeling it was mostly RJ, because it came almost out of nowhere to me in 8 (I mean, Rey made about 3 or 4 friends in her entire life at that point, and Kylo has just killed one of them (Han) and tried to killed another (Finn), I have no idea why she was suddenly so willing to give this guy any sort of chance whatsoever). And I say it with regret, because I admired a lot of the things that RJ tried to do in TLJ, even if I didn't enjoy all of them. I still felt like he opened the story to new directions and opportunities, and the idea of dividing the trio up was not that bad in itself (the original trio was also separated in the second part and it did try to give them some room to grow). At least, there was no need to course-correct so strongly once more. Now nothing feels like it works together....

Yeah, agreed.

It definitely seems like 8 was where the change happened. But it also seems completely insane that the SW movies were run in such a way that RJ would be able to make those kinds of decisions and changes on his own without it being part of a broader plan, so if that really was the case, I'd want to know how the decision was made to do that.

They claimed somewhere that there was some sort of broad-strokes plan to it all, but I find it hard to belive. I mean, the whole force connection between Kylo and Rey could have been theoretically planned in some way, but if that was the case, then FA really failed to lay the grounds for TLJ in that regard.

It sure didn't feel like they had an overall plan, and these movies needed one! There's nothing wrong with just making a movie, and then another, and so on, but if your intention is to make a trilogy that will be the final third of a nine-movie saga then maybe figure out what you're trying to *do* with it.
