Honestly - I thought this movie was terrible from a Reylo perspective (or a Benrey perspective, however you want to define it). Which is pretty incredible for a movie that actually has them kiss, but it just seemed like all the tension and chemistry and interest was drained out of the relationship.

Also obviously not great for Kylux

Okay, but, is tension the only thing that makes romance? Han/Leia is not the only model for successful romance. You can have romance without tension. I get that it is a popular archetype, but lots of people like other types as well. And Ben and Rey fit into several archetypes, not just the tension romance one.

That was not my experience at all. I found the relationship more interesting and compelling in TROS than I did in TLJ.

I think what sold me on Ben/Rey and Ben redemption is that Driver seems to have resting sad puppy face. But even that is awkward because TLS is one of those movies that grow dumber the more you think about it.

TROS that is. TMI, TTFN.

I was wondering why we were suddenly talking about The Last Starfighter.

As a casual SW viewer who finds remembering the names of all the films tricky, I was just like, "'The Last Skywalker'? Is that what the movie was called? Well, it sounds right." Lol.

TROS is weird for me because the overall plot and what was done to some of the characters is so terrible, but there are so many great moments in the midst of that. So I guess it overall balances to me liking it, but I like it for a few really great scenes, not the overall movie.

Personally, I liked the movie overall, while being quite aware that the plot was cluttered, flimsy, forced, and rushed. Like, basically, the plot was bad. But I’ve never really cared that much about plot, myself. I’m a characters person.

My pet peeves around fiction are most often, “Why was the character so stupid? Why did they do the stupid thing?” and rarely, “Why was the plot full of holes?” So the uber-flimsy plot didn’t bother me that much.

And because I’m not fandom-level fannish about Star Wars, I didn’t have any particularly strong ideas or opinions about how the characters should be handled. Like, my sense of what’s IC and OOC for these characters is…very chill? Like, normie levels of chill. So for me, the character stuff was…mostly good. I was like, yeah, I like you people and the relationships you have with each other. And for me that definitely included Rey and Ben/Kylo. I have issues with his character and don’t 100% buy his arc, but for the most part I found his and Rey’s weird, compulsive, involuntary-yin-and-yang relationship interesting and compelling.

Also, I genuinely love that the ONLY time we see Ben/Kylo look anything other than sad, angry, or a variant thereof, is after he's traded his life for Rey's and he's dying.

My attitude towards Ben/Kylo changed completely after the Memory!Han chat. Once Ben was running to save Rey, he was much more appealing.

I'm not a Kylo/Hux fan - or a Kylo/anyone fan, but I agree that for a brief moment, I could see Ben/Rey and it startled me.

Same.

Rey/Ben is how Rey has shipped it since TLJ.

I love you and I love this secret! Glad TROS has converted some people toward Reylo.
