(Anonymous) 2020-01-06 01:19 am (UTC)(link)My pet peeves around fiction are most often, “Why was the character so stupid? Why did they do the stupid thing?” and rarely, “Why was the plot full of holes?” So the uber-flimsy plot didn’t bother me that much.
And because I’m not fandom-level fannish about Star Wars, I didn’t have any particularly strong ideas or opinions about how the characters should be handled. Like, my sense of what’s IC and OOC for these characters is…very chill? Like, normie levels of chill. So for me, the character stuff was…mostly good. I was like, yeah, I like you people and the relationships you have with each other. And for me that definitely included Rey and Ben/Kylo. I have issues with his character and don’t 100% buy his arc, but for the most part I found his and Rey’s weird, compulsive, involuntary-yin-and-yang relationship interesting and compelling.
Also, I genuinely love that the ONLY time we see Ben/Kylo look anything other than sad, angry, or a variant thereof, is after he's traded his life for Rey's and he's dying.
