How dare someone say this is a guy.

No matter how much you hate them, it doesn't make Forstater right

(Anonymous) 2020-01-05 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Your opinion on a stranger's identity still doesn't give you the legal right to harass them.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-05 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
They’re the harasser

(Anonymous) 2020-01-05 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
1) Forstater harassed them on company time
2) Neither of them being dipshits makes their harassment okay. Both can be dipshits.
But 3) Still doesn't mean we get to misgender them.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-05 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad that you think harassment is bad, and I assume you disagree with Forstater's position, which is (according to the mediating judge) that her opinion on a stranger's identity does giver her the right to harass them.

Murray was the person who Forstater “misgendered”

(Anonymous) 2020-01-05 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
They can still be misgendered even if they're a shit person. Stop putting it in quotes, dumbass.

"I conclude from this, and from the totality of the evidence, that [Forstater] is absolutist in her view of sex and it is a core component of her belief that she will refer to a person by the sex she considered appropriate even if it violates their dignity and/or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment... [Forstater] could generally avoid the huge offense caused by calling a trans woman a man without having to refer to her as a woman, as it is often not necessary to refer to a person's sex at all... I do not accept that there is a failure to to engage with the importance of [Forstater's] qualified right to freedom of expression, as it is legitimate to exclude a belief that necessarily harms the rights of others... The human rights balancing approach goes against [Forstater] because of the absolutist approach she adopts."

It is by no means clear to me how any kind of misdeed by Murray could support the contention by Forstater that she has an absolute right to misgender people even when doing so constitutes harassment.

I get it, you wanna misgender them, too. It just outs you as a transphobe.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-05 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Like the woman they harassed in the linked article? But we barely hear about that because this male with a beard was "misgendered" by that meanie terf. And as we know terfs are worse than lesbophobes and misogynists.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-05 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Why do you keep acting like criticizing Murray is ever capable of making Forstater right? You have an obsession.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-05 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
People with beards can still be misgendered, you dense fuck.

Terfs are bad. Lesbophobes are bad. Misogynists are bad. They can all be bad at the same time. This is all about what Forstater did, though, and Rowling's specific wording in her support.

Dude,* I’m a cis woman and given a week without access to a razor I’d have a beard going. I’ve been misgendered. It sucks. Referring to people by their preferred pronouns= politeness, not hating women or lesbians.

*I usually try not to call people I don’t know dude, even though I’m from coastal SoCal and even when, like you, I find their behavior annoying. But not gonna rein it in for your sake in the probably vain hope that you understand why it’s not cool.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-06 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, me too. And you know what? I've never went on an "IT'S MA'AM" rampage or thought being called "he" was actual violence. I'm not going to pretend to be upset that someone didn't call a masculine presenting MALE "they" just because I'm a female with facial hair or that I used to get mistaken for a boy because I wore baggy clothes and cornrows.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-06 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
DA but do you want a cookie for that?

Also there's a difference between doing it on accident and doing it on purpose, which is the situation at hand.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-06 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT—I’m gonna be polite and refer to people, even people I think are assholes, by their preferred pronouns and as the gender they self-identify as. I will call them an asshole if I think they’re being an asshole, however.

Also that’s nice for you that being misgendered isn’t a big deal. I never freaked out and screamed “it’s ma’am!” at anyone, I generally just went and hid in the bathroom and cried. I wear form-fitting tops, skirts, and my hair long to try and avoid it happening more often, but it doesn’t always work.

It takes me more effort to remember people’s names (everybody’s, not just gnc/trans people’s) than their pronouns. But even if you make honest mistakes, it takes real effort to be the asshole that goes around misgendering people on purpose. If someone tells you they’re a woman, or a man, or non-binary, just fucking go with it. They’re not doing it to fuck with you. And if you deliberately misgender someone, YOU ARE AN ASSHOLE.

I'm sorry the pain that causes you. Those of us with facial hair have all been negatively affected by it. Having facial hair as a woman is a difficult hand to be dealt whether we accept it or not.

I've always been more upset that to navigate through this effed up, male biased life, one has to shave. That and the shit is so uncomfortable.

This times infinity. Thank you.
