You know statistically she will desist before adulthood, right?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-08 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
You stink.

Oh yes the classic "I can't dispute your facts so I will call you names" school of childish behavior.

>"yOu CaN'T rEfUtE mY fAcTs!!!"

>literally provides no facts aside from using the word "statistically"

sure, jan

Claiming that you have statistics that prove something on the internet is just utterly meaningless. So, so, so fucking useless.

Even actually posting statistics is still tricky but just saying that you have them is nothing

Yup, you should hope she is trans so she can have expensive, life-altering surgeries and medications and a higher suicide risk. It'd be so awful if she changed her mind to no ill effect! #representationmatters

Bold of you, internet anon, to assume to know a child better than her parents and the other adults around her, including trained medical professionals, and most importantly, better than she knows herself.

But because I'm a silly person who engages with trolls even when it's pointless to do so, I'll tell you what I told one of the more skeptical adults in her life, which is that, having known her since infancy, I don't think it's a phase. But if she turns out not to be trans, she'll grow up knowing that the adults around her love, support, and respect her, through all the difficulties of adolescence and the struggles of figuring out one's identity, whatever that turns out to be.

You're a wonderful person and your niece is lucky to have your support in her life <3

Ehhh, I’m okay. She’s a fuckin badass though. :)

And if she does, so what? She will have had a supportive and loving childhood and (statistically) much better mental health than children who wanted to transition but weren't allowed.

I don't know what you people think the desistance rate is, I want to say 80%? I'm pretty sure that's what you say, so let's assume it's that. And also that the only reason a trans kid would ever desist is that they suddenly are totally okay with their birth gender now, and not because they've experienced so much transmisia that the closet looks like a nicer place again.

80% desistance means 20% of trans kids don't desist. Depending on who you ask, the rate of trans people in the overall population is somewhere between 2% and one in a trillion. Both of which, you'll notice, are rather smaller than 20%.

So even if we buy your dumb fake statistic, trans kids are still overwhelmingly more likely than average to be trans adults.
