I firmly believe that, while one of them will die in the books, GRRM intends for their romance to have a much more satisfying progression and conclusion than that joke of a barely seen month-long fling in the show followed by Cersei: the D&D drug guaranteed to piss and shit on a great character arc and then set it on fire.

Unless the traveling time between Winterfell and King's Landing is yet another thing D&D forgot. (In season 1, it was stated that it took a month one way.) Dany and others made it to KL when Jaime was still in Winterfell.
